Morpeth Museum

Morpeth Museum is located in the former Courthouse, centrally located in Swan Street. The State significant building was constructed in 1862 on land donated by Lt E Close – founder of Morpeth.

Restoration of the building has enabled extra exhibition spaces to be utilised with eight display areas in addition to the main display room. The Museum reflects the diversity and history of the local area through a collection of memorabilia, artefacts, slide shows and interpretive texts. Whilst some exhibits remain constant, for example, original courtroom furniture where visitors can sit behind the bench and pass sentence, or visit the holding cell and spend some time in solitary, there are also changing exhibitions commiserate with a folk museum.

Visitor packages are available for group bookings, including talks, heritage walks and/or morning tea etc. Local family histories are onsite and visitors can research their local roots. School groups are also welcome.

 

General admission is $2.00 per person, children free.
